James “Hobo Jim” Varsos was born in 1952 in Lafayette, Indiana but spent most of his youth in Madison, Wisconsin. At 18, he hit the open road, hitchhiking throughout North America before eventually making his way to Alaska, where he would find his forever home.  Music wasn't paying the bills, so to make a living he worked as a deckhand, cannery worker, logger, ranch hand, and cowboy.
